NetConnect “Connecting European Culture through New Technology” is promoted by
Culture 2000 European Programme. It concerns the definition of cultural
interconnections among three archaeological sites (in Italy, Germany, and Poland) and
foresees the digital reconstruction of the sites, the diffusion of multimedia contents and
the use of GIS technology for providing geographical information about the scenarios.
NetConnect is now entering its final stage and it will conclude its activities by the end of
2009. The results of the project are manifold both in terms of technological
achievements as well as in terms of improvement of the communication flow between
two traditionally separated communities: archaeologists and IT technologists.
This issue focuses on the NetConnect workshop organised by the consortium partners
in Glasgow on April 2009. The event took place in the context of the Digital
Documentation conference which was held on April 22 to 23, 2009 at the Old
Fruitmarket in Glasgow (http://www.digitaldocumentation.co.uk/). NetConnect was one
of the primary sponsors of the event.
During the event, NetConnect was introduced during two full presentations (20
minutes each), two demo sessions (15 minutes), three tutorials (1.15 hr each). A
numbers of videos showing NetConnect results were continuously played at the room.
Additionally this issue reports on latest results of NetConnect which have undergone a
first testing phase during the conference „75 years of research in Biskupin” organised in
18-19 June 2009. This event provided excellent feedback on several of the technical
achievement reached by NetConnect staff throughout the project.
