NetConnect: Project Concept

NetConnect “Connecting European Culture through New Technology” is promoted by Culture 2000 European Programme. It concerns the definition of cultural interconnections among three archaeological sites (in Italy, Germany, and Poland) and foresees the digital reconstruction of the sites, the diffusion of multimedia contents and the use of GIS technology for providing geographical information about the scenarios.

NetConnect is now entering its final stage and it will conclude its activities by the end of 2009. The results of the project are manifold both in terms of technological achievements as well as in terms of improvement of the communication flow between two traditionally separated communities: archaeologists and IT technologists.

This issue illustrates some of the most important technological achievements of the project, presenting the interactive web-based serious game developed during the project. The mobile client of NetConnect is also presented, showing how this can be used onsite to provide additional information to visitors of the archaeological sites. The issue illustrates also the latest KML exporter providing the user with an easy access to the points of interest of the archaeological sites.

The developed technology is now ready to be tested, as introduced in this issue. We are confident of the results achieved by the team, the outcome of the ongoing extensive testing campaign will be subject of the next issue of this newsletter.

Finally this issue also focuses on a number of dissemination activities that have taken place in the last few months greatly involving the NetConnect partners.
