NetConnect: 3D Reconstructions

Unical arranged a plan of Lokroi to enable its 3D reconstruction. They created a plan view, a front view, and a side view of some Magno-Greek houses including buildings two buildings, “Stoà” and “Sacellum”.
Furthermore, the partner arranged documents for the reconstruction of the theatre and of the temple of Marasà. A study about the flora and fauna of the Magna Graecia was realized: this research was considered very important to complete the 3D modelling of the Magno-Greek area (the key information details cereals on the plain, olives on the hill and holy wood on the hilltops). Daily like scenes have been described on the basis of the Pinakes, ancient terracotta tables, and reported in a storyboard used for providing combined real and virtual information based on users’ location by GPS.

NetConnect: Magna Graecia Scenario: Lokroi

One of the aims of this NetConnect project is to design and develop a virtual journey through 3D representations related to the Magna Graecia period. In order to achieve this, the archaeological site of Lokroi has been individuated as the most relevant archaeological site to use for a virtual reconstruction of Calabrian Magna Graecia. Several environments have been created: Theatre, agora, house, temple, and so on.
The documentation for this kind of modelling consists of a database (images, texts, paintings) obtained through extensive bibliographic research. Moreover, the data has been analysed by historians and archaeologists to obtain a congruent and organic overall composition. In fact, the activity of virtual reconstruction of an archaeological site requires a close collaboration between technological experts and researchers in multimedia environments and cultural operators, in order to design and develop a realistic and historically correct virtual representation.
